Great inventions that have changed the world: from the wheel to artificial intelligence:

  • The invention of the Wheel made transport faster and easier for humans. The earliest wheeled vehicles date back to the period between 3500 and 3350 BC.
  • Paper invented by Chinese people - without paper the Printing press would never have been invented)
  • The Compass: a magnetic compass that could be used for navigation, introduced in Europe in the late 12th century.
  • The Refrigerator : changed the way the food industry transports in the early 1900s
  • Medicines and vaccinations have extended and changed our lives significantly. In 1928 Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin
  • Steam Engine improved by James Watt and the first steam locomotive built by George Stephenson. And in 1825 the Stockton-Darlington Railway was opened (Napoli-Portici in Italy) and drove the Industrial Revolution
  • Light bulbs with a carbon filament were first demonstrated by Thomas Edison in October 1879.
  • In 1903 the Wright brothers inaugurated the areal age with the first flight, but the first passengers flight started in 1914 
  • The telephone by Graham Bell in 1836 and The Radio developed by Guglielmo Marconi and Nikola Tesla in the late 19th century, changed global communications, but it was only the beginning of a new era. Then electronic television arrived in 1927.
  • Apollo 11 was the American spaceflight that first landed humans on the Moon.  Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle on July 20, 1969.
  • The history of the Personal Computer as mass-market electronic device began in the 1970s, and Arpanet was considered the father of the Internet.

  •  The first mobile phone was an oversized luxury item, now it’s a pocket-sized mini-computer. The first mobile phone call was made in 1973 by Martin Cooper, an American engineer, while he was walking along a street in New York City.

  • Today, mobile phones are owned by nearly 7 billion people worldwide. Smartphones were introduced in 2007. World population (2024) 8.1 billion. Estimated number of mobile phones in the world: 8.58 billion.
