World Teachers' Day


World Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on 5 October , as a way to celebrate teachers across the world. It is a special occasion to recognize the crucial role they play in ensuring quality education and in shaping the future of societies. Beyond celebration, the day also serves to highlight the many challenges teachers face—whether in terms of working conditions, access to proper training, or adequate resources.

 It's an opportunity to remind us all of how essential teachers are, not only for individual learning but also for building sustainable development and fostering peace. Each year, UNESCO  -  United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization- (UNESCO) 
 sets a theme for the day, drawing attention to key issues such as teachers’ rights, their leadership, and their role in strengthening education systems worldwide.


The theme for World Teachers’ Day 2025:

Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession


This theme emphasizes the transformative potential of collaboration within education systems. It advocates for a shift towards viewing teaching as a collective endeavor, supported by policies, practices, and environments that value mutual support, shared expertise, and joint responsibility. Such an approach is essential to strengthen teaching, learning, and teachers’ professional fulfillment.

UNESCO highlights that teaching thrives on collaboration. When educators have space to share ideas, support each other, and grow together, everyone benefits. This perspective encourages systems that prioritize teacher voice, mentorship, and teamwork (We Are Teachers).

The 2025 celebration will include global dialogues, country experiences, and teacher voices to reaffirm the irreplaceable role of teachers and the need to reposition trust, solidarity, and professional agency at the heart of education.

In Italy,World Teachers’ Day is observed with various events and activities to honor educators and discuss the future of education.

La Giornata mondiale degli insegnanti 2025, promossa dall’UNESCO, è dedicata al tema della collaborazione tra docenti, considerata cruciale per affrontare le sfide dell’istruzione e migliorare la qualità della didattica. La ricorrenza del 5 ottobre ricorda la Raccomandazione del 1966 che ha fissato diritti e responsabilità degli insegnanti a livello globale, ancora oggi punto di riferimento. Il lavoro di squadra tra educatori viene visto come strumento per accrescere l’efficacia e condividere buone pratiche.

L’UNESCO sottolinea che l’insegnamento prospera grazie alla collaborazione. Quando gli educatori hanno lo spazio per condividere idee, sostenersi a vicenda e crescere insieme, tutti ne traggono beneficio. Questa prospettiva incoraggia sistemi che valorizzino la voce degli insegnanti, il mentoring e il lavoro di squadra.

La celebrazione del 2025 includerà dialoghi globali, esperienze nazionali e testimonianze dirette dei docenti per riaffermare il ruolo insostituibile degli insegnanti e la necessità di riportare fiducia, solidarietà e autonomia professionale al centro dell’educazione (UNESCO).

In Italia, la Giornata mondiale degli insegnanti viene celebrata con eventi e attività per onorare la professione docente e discutere il futuro dell’istruzione.

    Auguroni e un convinto sostegno a tutti gli insegnanti che credono che lavorare da solisti nella scuola di qualunque livello non sia efficace come farlo in collaborazione anche con colleghi di altre discipline che scelgono i contenuti più efficaci per raggiungere la mission stabilita e condivisa da tutti loro per la scuola in cui insegnano. Oggi più che mai in tempi dove c'è una grave emorragia di umanità nel mondo, penso che gli insegnanti debbano lavorare sull'acquisizione dell'intelligenza emotiva che metta al centro la persona, i suoi sentimenti e lo sviluppo dell'empatia come caratteristica fondamentale per costruire un mondo più giusto e in pace. Tutto ciò da parte di un vecchio insegnante come sono stato che ha sempre svolto con passione e responsabilità il proprio lavoro. Un abbraccio a tutti i colleghi
