SERVAS

  Music has always been at the center of education and human learning.

As a powerful educational tool, it supports cognitive development, enhances memory, and fosters emotional intelligence. Through song, complex concepts become accessible, language is strengthened, and learning becomes more engaging and meaningful.

Music encourages active participation, creativity, and critical thinking, transforming education into an inclusive and dynamic process. In this way, it does not simply support learning—it shapes it, guiding learners toward deeper understanding and lifelong curiosity.

 At PIME in Milan, in our English for Travel course, we started the new year with a virtual and musical journey.

Servas is an international group that works for peace by helping people meet each other in a simple, personal way. The idea is that when people from different
countries and cultures spend time together, they learn to understand each other
better, and this reduces fear and prejudice.

Servas members open their homes to travellers for short stays, or they meet just for a day to talk and share experiences.

These visits are not about tourism or free accommodation, but about
conversation, listening, and learning how other people live. Everyone who joins Servas agrees to respect its values, such as openness, trust, and responsibility toward others and the environment.

Servas is run by volunteers and exists in many countries around the world. Through small, everyday meetings between people, Servas believes it is possible to build peace step by step, starting from personal relationships.

The word “Servas” comes from Esperanto, an international language created to
promote understanding between people. In Esperanto, “servas” means “to serve”. The name reflects the idea behind the organization:
“serving peace by serving people”, through hospitality, friendship, and mutual
understanding across cultures.

Servas is recognized by the United Nations as a non-governmental organization that works in line with the UN’s values.

Servas connects people for a more peaceful and sustainable world.

Servas is a global and multicultural network of people sharing a vision that it’s
possible to make the world a more peaceful place. Members of the network connect both in real life and virtually to be more aware of each others’ cultures, religions and ethnic backgrounds. Meeting, connecting/reaching out, sharing and learning from each other enriches our lives.

Servas Italia è parte di una grande rete internazionale di persone che credono che la pace non sia un’idea astratta, ma qualcosa che si costruisce ogni giorno attraverso l’incontro, l’ascolto e la condivisione. Nata all’interno di Servas International, l’associazione riunisce donne e uomini di culture e Paesi diversi, accomunati dal desiderio di conoscersi oltre i confini geografici, linguistici e mentali.

In Servas il viaggio non è mai solo spostamento, ma relazione: entrare in una casa, sedersi a un tavolo, scambiarsi storie di vita diventa un modo concreto per abbattere pregiudizi e creare legami autentici. Anche in Italia, Servas promuove questo spirito attraverso l’ospitalità tra soci, gli incontri culturali, i momenti di dialogo e le iniziative dedicate all’educazione alla pace.

La musica, le lingue, il cammino, il racconto e l’esperienza condivisa sono strumenti privilegiati di questo percorso, perché parlano a tutti e uniscono ciò che sembra lontano. Servas Italia è dunque una comunità aperta, fatta di persone curiose e responsabili, che scelgono di incontrare l’altro con rispetto e fiducia, convinte che ogni incontro possa diventare un piccolo ma reale gesto di pace.
